Weighing of Aircraft and Helicopters

Portable ground platforms, ground-embedded systems and weighing kits for lifting jacks.

At Systratec we design, manufacture, install and maintain aeronautical weight & balance measurement systems of the highest quality and precision. Since we started manufacturing aeronautical mass measurement systems in 2007, we continue to innovate and improve our unique technologies day after day, to offer the market the best instruments available for weighing and calculating the centre of gravity of aeroplanes and helicopters. We manufacture our scales and weighing systems exclusively in France and Spain, and export them to any country, sending our installation and training team wherever our services are required.

Our range of products includes:

  • Portable weighing platforms for ultra-light and light aircraft, with a maximum take-off weight per wheel of 1,000kg (Auto|WS system).
  • Portable weighing platforms for light and medium aircraft and helicopters, with a maximum take-off wheel weight of 5,000kg (Aero|WS System).
  • Portable weighing platforms for medium and large aircraft, with functions for measuring the exact position of the wheel on the platform and calculating the centre of gravity (CARBON|Aero System), in versions up to 10,000kg per platform, 20,000kg per platform and 30,000kg per platform for special aircraft.
  • Multi-platform fixed ground-embedded systems, up to 18 independent scales, for weighing and centre of gravity measurement of any type of aircraft in weighing hangars or FAL.
  • Weighing kits on jacks for the conversion of existing lifting jacks into aeronautical weight and centring measurement systems, with calculation of the total moment and the X position of the centre of gravity relative to 25% of the aerodynamic mean chord.

Unlike other traditional manufacturers, our most advanced aeronautical weighing systems incorporate specific and exclusive SYSTRATEC technology that allows us to provide, in addition to the exact weight on each scale or platform, the exact position of the wheel on each platform with millimetric precision.

Measuring the position of the wheels during the weighing cycle simplifies and increases the accuracy of the calculation of the centre of gravity, and is essential in aircraft with complex landing gear geometry, where the distance between wheels varies with the load.

Our years of experience have allowed us to work with the main aircraft manufacturers, continuously improving our systems, adapting them to the peculiarities of their most common processes.

SYSTRATEC SYSTEMS BASED ON PORTABLE PLATFORM SCALES

Systems based on platform-type scales are easy to install and easy to store. At SYSTRATEC we design our portable systems to have the lowest possible profile, which results in lower ramp slopes to facilitate the towing of aircraft. We take extraordinary care in materials and structure to provide the characteristic ultra-rigid behaviour of our load receptors, using aerospace-grade aluminium in all cases and mixed aluminium and carbon fibre structures in our more advanced platforms, without penalising the weight of the instrument.

And, of course, all our platform scales incorporate only high-quality HBM sensors, guaranteeing perfect measurement year after year throughout the life of the instrument, and include our Systratec CORE and Systratec LCGRID electronics to carry out the acquisition and processing of sensor signals with the precision that befits our brand.

ON-JACK WEIGHING KIT

Our on-jack weighing kits are a cost-effective way to convert your lifting jacks into a complete weighing and centre of gravity measurement system with the quality and precision of all SYSTRATEC instruments. Discover in the dedicated section how the use of high-end force sensors, combined with the outstanding performance of our SYSTRATEC aircraft|REFERENCE electronics, can greatly improve jack weighing processes.

GROUND-EMBEDDED WEIGHING SYSTEM FOR FINAL ASSEMBLY LINE

Our embedded platform scale systems are, to date, the most advanced aeronautical weight and balance measuring instruments in the industry. We design and manufacture all the platforms tailored to customer’s needs, in high quality mechanically welded steel, as well as the cradles necessary to fit them into the hangar floor. Optionally, we can incorporate lifting systems for the platform corresponding to the nose landing gear to allow centring measurements at different pitch angles. They are fully remote controllable, to the extent that automated weighing procedures can be programmed to be performed identically every time. Find out more in our specific section for this system.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

The desire to surpass traditional weighing technologies, building the most advanced, accurate and longest-lasting weighing systems on the market, is what drives the entire SYSTRATEC team. This ambitious objective is achieved by working on each scale in depth, seeking excellence in all the technologies used: the structural design, the choice of materials, the sensors used, the hardware of the measurement electronics and weight displays, the firmware of all the electronics, the calibration procedures and tools and countless other details. It is by taking the utmost care with each instrument, load receptor and electronics that we can guarantee our customers that the investment they have made in the purchase of their measuring equipment is protected and profitable by having an instrument that can be upgraded for many years and that is always capable of providing the highest quality of measured value in the industry. SYSTRATEC weighing and centre of gravity measurement systems incorporate the following unique technologies:

ULTRA-RIGID STRUCTURES

We build our scales and all our load receptors using only aircraft aluminium, stainless steel and carbon fibre. Our structures are designed to have zero deflection at nominal load over the tyre footprint. This results in greater linearity, accuracy and durability of all our instruments compared to traditional solutions.

FULL FIRMWARE CONTROL

As manufacturers of our own electronics, we have full control over the internal firmware. This allows us to offer the market a very high capacity for adaptation and integration of our instruments in any customer process. It also allows us to update our instruments throughout their entire service life, evolving their capabilities as our customers’ needs evolve.

LOAD POSITION MEASUREMENT

Our most advanced scales provide, in addition to the weight value, the exact position of the load on the platform with millimetre accuracy. This unique feature greatly reduces uncertainty in static mass distribution, centre of gravity or aircraft balance calculations.

HIGH-END WEIGHT SENSORS

We build our scales and load cells around high-end stainless steel sensors based exclusively on strain gauges. Partners since 2015 with the German sensor manufacturer HBM® Hottinger Brüel Kjaer, we exclusively use these load cells for their outstanding metrological quality and durability, which are recognised worldwide and present in all reference laboratories. The use of these high-end load cells allows for greater ease of adjustment year after year, virtually indefinitely, compared to other technologies such as piezoelectric, capacitive, or hydraulic pressure sensors, or low-quality load cells, which lose their ability to adjust after only a few years of use.

INDEPENDENT OPERATION OF EACH SENSOR

We do not use junction boxes in our instruments. Our proprietary electronics are capable of acquiring separately and in parallel the individual signal of up to 20 load cells simultaneously. We monitor each sensor during the weighing process to ensure we always provide the best possible measurement, detecting saturation, short circuits, unwanted traction states and other potential problems before giving a weight value that may not be of our trademark quality.
